David Jack, another member of Herbert Chapman's all-conquering 1930s team, had the honour of scoring the first ever goal at Wembley - for Bolton in the 1923 'White Horse' FA Cup final. He was an England regular when he joined Arsenal and helped the Gunners to their first FA Cup win and first League title under Chapman.

One of the finest players to grace a football pitch. Alex James was a star of his time and a pivotal figure in Arsenal's domination of the 1930s. Famed for baggy shorts, James opened the scoring in the 1930 FA Cup final to set Arsenal on their way to a first major trophy. He left after another FA Cup win in 1936 and also racked up four titles during his time at Highbury.

When Jennings made the switch from Spurs to Arsenal in 1977, few expected him to emulate the popularity and success he enjoyed at White Hart Lane. They were wrong. Jennings made 326 appearances for the Gunners, dominating his area with a calm authority. Unspectacular but brave and effective, Jennings helped Arsenal reach four finals and was awarded an OBE in 1987.

Grease on Dan Lewis' jersey was blamed for Arsenal's 1-0 defeat in the 1927 FA Cup final against Cardiff. A weak shot slipped from the goalkeeper's grasp and he could only help it over the line with his elbow. After the game, Tom Whittaker insisted that keeper should always wear an unwashed (and hence ungreasy) shirt.
