Freddie laments loss of concentration

Freddie Ljungberg was annoyed with the manner of the late equaliser by Panathinaikos last night.
The Swede put Arsenal ahead after 17 minutes only for Ezequiel Gonzalez to chip keeper Jens Lehmann midway through the second half. Thierry Henry restored the visitors’ lead in the 74th minute but substitute Emmanuel Olisadebe nodded the Greek champions back on level terms eight minutes from full-time.
“It is annoying to concede goals when we are twice ahead in the game,” said Ljungberg. “And especially when it is so late. The guy was on his own in the box for the header and we are not really pleased with that.
“I am not blaming anyone, I am just saying we need to concentrate on the set-pieces. They did not create that much then they get a corner and score.
“When we drew against Bolton recently they scored from a corner and a set-piece. So concentration is maybe something we need to work on.”
Ljungberg also discussed the discrepancy between the side’s caution in Europe and confidence in England.
“I would not say it is a mental thing,” he said. “We just try to play smart. Recently when we were at Manchester City, we stopped playing when we were 1-0 up. We held on that day but we spoke about it after the game. We don’t want to give away the initiative. Sometimes in Europe we want to win so much, we drop back and back. We need to find a balance. The right mixture so we can do well in Europe.
“But it is important to remember we have not lost in the group, so we can’t complain too much. We still have a lot to play for.”
