Arsenal midfielder Edu is set to hand the North London giants a boost by inking a new deal in the not too distant future.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has recently expressed his concern at the possibility of losing the talented Brazilian, whose contract expires in the summer.

Edu, 26, has been stalling on an initial contract offer but after extended negotiations, he now looks likely to remain at Highbury.

Manchester United, Barcelona and Valencia were all thought to be monitoring the situation but the player's agent, Jean Gaspar, has indicated that an agreement could soon be brokered.

''The latest meeting was much better,'' conceded Gaspar.

''And it indicated that Edu's contract renewal could happen soon.''
