Henry takes captaincy for Rosenborg

Thierry Henry will captain Arsenal against Rosenborg on Tuesday.

Patrick Vieira is suspended so the striker will take the armband temporarily, just as he did against Norwich back in August.

“It will be Thierry,” confirmed Arsène Wenger. “He has done it well until now but it could have been Sol too. Whether Sol has the armband or not he is really focused on the team. He is back on track and was one of the leaders against Birmingham. When it was not going well, he was always positive and that is what you expect from the experienced players.”

Henry was delighted when he heard the news but warned that the extra responsibility must not distracte him from his main task – scoring goals.

“I will be an honour,” beamed the striker, “but [on Tuesday] it is all about whether you do it for the team or not. It is no good having the armband if you don’t do anything.”
