Tired Henry asks for rest

Thierry Henry will be rested by Arsenal Wenger as Arsenal begin their FA Cup campaign against Stoke at Highbury on Sunday.

The France striker, who admitted to feeling tired in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Tuesday night, has started in 28 matches so far this season.

They include all 22 in the Premiership and the six games Arsenal have played to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Wenger is wary of burnout for Henry but the striker may not be the only established player to be left out. Henry made the case for his omission by saying: "People don't realise how many games I play. Against Manchester City I was a bit tired and it is always good to have a rest."

Patrick Vieira also looked jaded against City and may be rested along with Ashley Cole. England full-back Cole hurt his ankle against City and, although X-rays showed no break, Gael Clichy is set for a recall. Francesc Fabregas played despite a heavy cold on Tuesday and may be given time to shake off the virus, while Lauren has still to recover from a knee injury.

Contract rebel Edu is back in full training but is not ready for a return to action after breaking a toe in the Carling Cup tie against Everton in November.

Sol Campbell is making progress from an ankle injury but is unlikely to be risked while Dennis Bergkamp, sidelined recently with a thigh injury, is making progress towards fitness.
