The Express claimed yesterday that Arsene Wenger had made one inquiry and contact was made by Arsenal at a senior level within the last 48 hours about the availability of the 21-year-old.
The Express says Newcastle rate him at £20million but would listen to a substantial offer. And added that a St James' insider said last night: "If there is one area in the squad where we are well covered, it is midfield."
The story has some legs as one paper reported this morning that Spurs have bid £10m for Jenas. Maybe his agent is hawking to raise the price. (Real Madrid said they would bid for all the players Arsenal go for. Now it seems Spurs are as well). The fact Jenas will not play European football with Newcastle in World Cup year is another plus point for Arsenal.
