The Arsenal manager strongly disagrees. "The best way to win, I feel, is to continue to do what we do but do it better," he said at his pre-match press conference.
"The difficulty is to ask the right question when you lose. The right question when you lose is not whether you attack too much, it's whether you attack well enough or defend well enough.
"Playing good football is the best way to win games. For example, we played a whole season unbeaten playing the same football, but now we have lost two games people ask why do we continue to attack. I think we have to continue to attack but attack better and defend better as a unit.
"As for 4-5-1, it depends who you ask this question. If you ask a striker he'd never say it was better, if you ask a midfielder he would say yes because there is one more position for him! But you have to have a positive attitude to try and win the game."
Wenger deployed a 4-5-1 formation for last season's FA Cup Final but it was a rare departure from his usual positive approach. Clearly, the Arsenal manager would not go down that road regularly.
"Teams will defend when they go away but you have to score goals if you want to win the game," he said. "Overall I feel that you should not think that you don't have to play in order to win.
"If that process goes into the brain then football really goes down quickly because it cuts the initiative out and then you cannot improve."
