Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid are likely to sack coach Wanderley Luxemburgo on Sunday.
The Brazilian's position has been the subject of intense speculation ever since their 3-0 home drubbing by arch rivals Barcelona last month.
They are currently only three points behind the table-topping Catalans - although Barca do have a game in hand - and beat Getafe on Saturday night at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, their fans turned on the team during the win as they were outplayed for long spells by their considerably less celebrated Madrid neighbours.
Real managed only 36 percent of possession in the game and were left hanging on after David Beckham was shown a straight red card after 56 minutes.
The players, Luxemburgo and president Florentino Perez all came in for criticism from the Real faithful who made no secret of their anger at the level of recent displays.
As a result of the discontent it is understood Real have called an emergency board meeting for Sunday afternoon at which it is expected they will decide to call time on Luxemburgo's reign.
If they do bring don the axe on the Brazilian, Real Madrid Castilla, (Real's B team), coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro is likely to be appointed as an interim manager until a big-name appointment is made.
Names such as Arsene Wenger, Rafael Benitez and Fabio Capello have been touted as Real's priorities to succeed Luxemburgo, but it seems unlikely any will leave their current positions, until the end of the current season at least.
