WENGER IN BARRY BID
ARSENAL MIDFIELD ALERT
Dave Kidd Reporting
Arsene Wenger has joined the hunt for Gareth Barry.
The Arsenal boss has asked to be kept informed of the Aston Villa midfielder's situation and is believed to be ready to rival Liverpool's and Chelsea's £15million valuation.
Wenger is concerned he will lose his holding midfielder Mathieu Flamini and sees Barry as the ideal replacement.
Flamini is out of contract next month and has been handed a take-it-or-leave-it £55,000-a-week pay deal - with Inter Milan and Juventus both interested in the Frenchman.
Wenger has been reluctant to spend big money on transfer fees or wages, especially on English players, but he does have serious transfer funds available this summer.
He believes Barry could be tempted by a greater chance of first-team football at the Emirates, even if the Gunners cannot compete with Chelsea for wages.
