"I'm not surprised"
French international and Arsenal player Robert Pires, working for the French radio station Europe 1 during the semi-final of the Champions League between Chelsea and Monaco (2-2), considers that the qualification of the French club was not a surprise. "There is a great feeling in this team between the players and the coach, and a good discipline. I am not surprised by the results of Monaco and by their qualification", declared Robert Pires. "Deschamps is a man who never gives up and he inspires an enormous confidence. Chelsea was very good in the first half, but what killed them was the goal just before the break. Chelsea was better at Stamford Bridge than at Monaco, but that was not enough", he added.
Robert Pire claimed that Monaco deserved their win because "they were the better team and they were far more disciplined". As for the final, he fancied Porto to beat Monaco. "It will be a great triumph if Monaco win," said the Arsenal midfielder.
