Henry is not indispensable, says France coach
Sat 25 September, 2004
PARIS, Sept 25 (Reuters) - France striker Thierry Henry is "not indispensable" and could be dropped if he does not rediscover his scoring touch, according to France coach Raymond Domenech.
"I need to find an attacking line that score goals. Thierry Henry is not indispensable," Domenech told the French weekly Le Journal du Dimanche in an interview to be published on Sunday.
"It's impossible to build a team around Henry because if he were to be injured or in poor form, we would find ourselves in a difficult situation," Domenech added.
"I'm worried because he only scored in one of his last six games for France, a double at Euro 2004 against Switzerland," he said."
"Titi is going through a bad period and when a player lacks confidence, he is often late on the ball, he goes to the wrong place and makes his moves at the wrong time. I hope the problem will be solved soon."
Domenech has started the Arsenal forward in his three games in charge since replacing Jacques Santini, playing him alongside Peguy Luyindula in a friendly against Bosnia and with Louis Saha in World Cup qualifiers against Israel and the Faroe Islands.
France drew 1-1 and 2-2 with Bosnia and Israel and beat the Faroes 2-0.
They play their next World Cup qualifier against Ireland at the Stade de France on October 9.
