Just how young were the Young Guns on Tuesday?

We have added up the age of the side in the opening minute and the final minute. The starting line-up had an average age of  21 years two weeks. It was boosted by the presence of Manuel Almunia at 27 years, six months and Edu aged 26 years six months.

The Brazilian was forced to leave the field in the second half with a broken toe. This reduced the average age still further but they went on to increase their lead. They ended the game with an average age of 20 years six months.

In fact, if you take off Almunia, the average age of the 10 outfield players at the end of the game was 19 years 10 months.

NB Ryan Smith played last night as a 17-year-old. He has turned 18 today.
