Bergkamp - The team is back on track

Dennis Bergkamp believes two high-scoring victories have re-built the confidence in the Arsenal side just in time for the crunch game with Chelsea at the weekend.

The Dutch striker has been missing for the last three games but returned to the side for Wednesday’s 5-1 romp against Rosenborg at Highbury. It sent Arsenal through to the Champions League Knockout Phase as Group E winners and came just three days after a morale-boosting victory over Birmingham.

“We got to play some football against Rosenborg,” said Bergkamp. “We found each other again. We played some one-touch and that has not been there for a few weeks. You could see it help to get us back on the right track. I think we had lost a little confidence and it is fair to say that is a big part of the game.

“I wish we knew why. Sometimes you think you are doing the same sort of things and it could be just a little less than the week before. That can make a big difference. It takes some time and a lot of work to get it back.

“We did a lot of positional football [in training]. There was a lot of base work with the whole squad. But with last week and the performance against Rosenborg hopefully we are back again.”
