阿森纳队长维埃拉表示，如果球队想要进入冠军杯八强，就必须加强防守。

在冠军杯第一轮淘汰赛上，阿森纳在到达慕尼黑后就立即开始了训练，尽管球队上下情绪都很高涨，但是当下半场开始就被拜仁攻入第二球的时候，胜利似乎离阿森纳越来越远了。尽管图雷的进球给了阿森纳一线希望，但是队长维埃拉仍然认为，球队不能再有一丝的松懈。

维埃拉并没有单独提及前锋。对于他来说失球是全队人的责任，而不是个别人的。

“我们大部分球控制的很好，但是他们抓住了一次又一次的机会，并取得了进球。我们的失球太多了，所以球队必须整体提高防守。我没有责怪任何人，只是进攻必须以良好的防守作为基础。”

尽管后卫坎贝尔的缺阵给球队带来不小的影响，但是维埃拉相信阿森纳一定能度过难关。

“所有人都知道索尔是一名优秀的后卫。但是这场比赛的失利不能把责任推倒西甘和图雷身上。这是整体球队的责任，作为一个整体如果我们想要在这样重大的赛事中走得更远，那么我们的防守就必须得到加强。”

“索尔对我们确实十分重要，但是他现在不在，我们必须处理的更好。”

“如果比分最终定格在3-0，那我们有95％几率出局。但是图雷在最后时刻的进球给了我们希望。我们都知道接下来的比赛对于我们十分困难，但是没有什么是不可能的。”

Vieira: 'The team must defend better'

Arsenal must defend much better as a team if they are to reach the Champions League Quarter-Final says Patrick Vieira.

Arsène Wenger’s side were trailing after only four minutes at Bayern Munich last night in the Knockout Round First Leg and, despite enjoying ample possession after that, the tie looked like it was slipping away from Arsenal when they conceded twice more in quick succession at the start of the second-half. Kolo Toure’s late goal gives Arsenal hope but, according to the captain, they need to tighten up.

A frustrated Vieira was careful not to point the finger at individuals. For him, the team had to take collective responsibility for the goals they let in.

“We kept the ball quite well at times,” he said. “But in the end they got one chance and scored, another one and scored then another one and scored.

“We concede too many goals and we need work on that as a team. We do not blame anybody but as a team we need to defend better before we go forward.”

Much was made of the absence of Sol Campbell through injury but Vieira believes his side should be able to cope.

“Everybody knows Sol is a quality player,” he said. “But you should not blame Pascal [Cygan] and Kolo [Toure] for the game. It is about the team and as a team we have to defend better if we want to go further in this competition.

“Sol is really important to the team but he was not here and we had to cope with it.”Had Toure not popped up with that late goal, Arsenal would have had only a five per cent chance of going through according to Vieira. “At 3-0 there was a 95 per cent chance we would not go through,” he said. “Kolo’s goal in the last minute gives us hope. We know it will be difficult but is not impossible.

“We hope we will play a little bit better at home and with the fans behind us you never know what is going to happen.

“The door is still open. We just have to believe in ourselves and we can do it.”
