Arsène Wenger has re-stated his belief that Patrick Vieira is staying at Arsenal.
Recent media reports have suggested the captain is on the brink of a big-money move to Real Madrid. After Saturday's opening pre-season friendly, Wenger said Vieira would not be leaving, no bid had been received and the Club did not need the money anyway.
Following last night’s victory over Maribor, he refuted suggestions that he'd spent recent days convincing the 28-year-old his future still lays with the club he joined from AC Milan in 1996.
"I have not been persuading Patrick not to go because there is nothing happening," said Wenger.
"If you read the newspapers you'd think there is nobody at the club. But against Maribor you could see we had a good team with fantastic prospects and that is what I focus on.
"I do not listen to what is said. I focus on what we want to achieve next season. That could be big, big, big. Therefore I have to be positive and keep everybody at the club.
"Nothing has changed [over Patrick's situation] that is all I can say. All the rest is down to imagination and creative writing not realistic writing."
