FIFA has confirmed that Italy will be among the seeds for the 2006 World Cup qualifying draw, to be held on Friday.

The Azzurri are in the first pot along with France, Portugal, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Spain, England and Turkey.

Teams are split into three groups of seven and five groups of six for the European qualifying section.

The winners of the Group will qualify automatically for the tournament in Germany along with the two best-placed runners up.

The other six second-placed sides will go into play-offs to reach the Finals in the summer of 2006.
