90年代末Rap界的弄潮儿Puff Daddy原名Sean “Puffy”Combs，他早在纽约州念大学时就立志当一名说唱乐手。最初，Puff Daddy在Uptown唱片公司里被安排扶持后来成为R&B界头面人物Mary J.Blige和Jodeci的事业发展。1993年，他离职并开设了自己的独立唱片公司Bad Boy，开始与Faith Evans，Craig Mack和The Notoriors B.l.G这样的知名艺人合作。1994年在他个人公司Bad Boy创下1200万张唱片销售记录的同时，Puff还因为Boyz ll Men，TLC，Swv和Aretha Franklin等艺人成功地写词普曲而屡获音乐奖项。此外，他还参与许多Hip-Hop组合作品的后期制作。1997年，在Puff Daddy首张个人专辑《No Way Out》（没有出路）中，Notoriors B.l.G，Busta Rhymes和Faith Evans这样的Rap名手参与了录制，其中排行榜冠军单曲“Can''t Nobody Hold Me Down”（不是没有人能让我失望）和“l''ll Be Missing You”（我会想念你）在商业上大获成功，并使Puff的名字出现在1998年葛莱美获奖名单上。
