Arsenal expect to clinch the signing of Seville Striker Julio Baptista for £11million this week.
Arsène Wenger has beaten off competition from local rivals Spurs to bring the 24-year-old Brazilian to Highbury.
But the gunners boss had to negotiatehard to seal the dealafter having an initial bid of £8m rejected by the spanish club.
Baptista is now due in London to complete his move on Wednesday and give Arsenal's attacking options a big boost. A Highbury source said:
"He's strong and powerful and the boss believes he is ideally suited to the Premiership.
"But his experience of life in Spainwill also make him a major asset in the Champions League especiallywith Dennis Bergkamp unavailable so often because of his fear of flying."
Baptista is close to Arsenals Spanish International Jose Antonio Reyes and Wenger is hoping their off-field friendship will blossom into a lethal partnership at Highbury.
