Vincent Kompany's agent has claimed that Arsenal showed strong interest in his client prior to his signing for Hamburg.
The talented stopper joined the Bundesliga outfit late last week for a deal in the region of £5.1 million after concurring on personal terms on Friday.
While the Belgium international has spoken of his delight at moving to Germany, his agent Jacques Lichtenstein has revealed that Arsene Wenger was in contact prior to the deal being struck.
Arsenal are thought to be in the market for a central defender with the future of Sol Campbell still far from certain, with Lichtenstein claiming Kompany was a realistic target.
''Arsenal were interested in Kompany,'' he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
''Wenger made it clear that he wanted to sign Kompany to replace Sol Campbell, if he would leave the English giants.''
Lichtenstein continued to suggest that Arsenal's North London neighbours Tottenham were also in the chase.
大意就是说在孔帕尼加盟汉堡之前arsenal对vincent kompnay感兴趣，想用他来代替可能离队的sol campbell。热刺也有意购买kompany。
