PORTSMOUTH have sworn revenge on Robert Pires for his shameful diving antics and insist they can wreck Arsenal’s unbeaten record.
Pires caused a major storm when he appeared to dive for a penalty to earn the Gunners a 1-1 draw at Highbury in September.
Defender Dejan Stefanovic, the victim of the French midfielder’s apparent cheating, insists Pompey owe Arsene Wenger’s men when they visit Fratton Park tonight.
He reckons Arsenal’s unbeaten run would have been over FIVE games into the season if ref Alan Wiley had not fallen for the French winger’s tumble.
But Thierry Henry netted from the spot and Arsenal are now just three matches away from going a season without a Premiership defeat.
Serb star Stefanovic, 29, said: “They have come all this way through the season without losing but maybe they were a bit lucky not to get beaten that day.
“We went a goal up. Then they were awarded the penalty that everyone knows should not have been.
“We thought it was unfair so we owe them one, no doubt about it.
“Fratton Park is a difficult place to come to. With the backing of our supporters, anything is possible. It would be nice to end the Arsenal run.”
Stefanovic admires Arsenal despite his anger at Pires and believes Wenger’s men will be the power in England for the rest of the decade.
He added: “Whatever the outcome, Arsenal will dominate English football for five to 10 years.
“I don’t think all the money that Roman Abramovich is prepared to spend at Chelsea will alter things — and even Manchester United will have to accept that Arsenal are the best.”
