When they were at the peak of their powers in the 1930s, Arsenal became known as the 'Bank of England Club'. The Club's prolific activity in the transfer market earned them that tag. Despite playing as an outside left, Bastin scored 178 goals for Arsenal, a record which was eventually eclipsed by Ian Wright in 1997.

He helped set up all three Arsenal goals in the 1979 FA Cup final and is now back at Highbury as the Head of Youth Development.

A bust of former Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman stands in the splendid marble hall entrance of Arsenal's stadium. The monument to one of football's greatest innovators was the work of the famous sculptor, Jacob Epstein. The bust was commissioned shortly after Chapman's tragic death in January 1934.
