Arsenal raise price that Barcelona would have to pay for star Cesc Fabregas to £80million
Arsenal have hit back at Barcelona by raising the value necessary to buy Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas to a staggering £80million.
The Gunners want to be paid a similar figure to what Real Madrid gave Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo last summer,
according to the Daily Mail.
Barcelona anticipated unveiling new signing David Villa and Fabregas at the Nou Camp on Thursday, thinking that terms for the Spaniard’s transfer had been agreed upon.
However, Arsenal want to hold onto their star midfielder despite the player’s recent meeting with Arsene Wenger where he expressed his desire to return to his childhood club.
Valencia agreed to transfer Villa to the Catalan giants for £34m on Tuesday and Barcelona hoped that a deal for Fabregas would be completed just as swiftly, but it could be their desire to finish the deal quick that dooms them in the end.
Arsenal want at least a £50m offer to even begin negotiating with Barcelona for Fabregas, and now the Gunners will balloon the price even higher in order to keep their captain.
It would be unlikely that Barcelona pay such a high price for Fabregas, but if they do it would give Wenger the money necessary to compete with Real, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City for the world’s elite players.
