gooner应该指的是球迷吧，球队的昵称还是叫gunner……

The usual term for the avaerage Arsenal supporter is "Gunner". For thereasons explained above (Arsenal has connotations with guns)
However Arsenal has a firm (hooligan gang) called "The Gooners" andsome crossover of terms is inevitable when the name sounds so similar.
edit - for the benefit of the answer above me it has nothing whatsoever to do with accents.

据我所知是这样的，阿森纳呢称Gunner，但是热次球迷把阿森纳称为Gooner也就是Goon愚笨的人呆子，于是俺们那些可爱的球迷觉得这个玩意还不错，就把Gooner拿来自称，这样就有了球员是Gunner枪手，而球迷是Gooner枪迷

我看不如这样理解 good+gunner=gooner
