The Morocco international has been watched extensively this season by Arsenal, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Sunderland among others.
At 6ft 1in he can play the target-man role but also has a good touch on the ball which enables him to bring other players in quickly.
The question marks remain about his strike rate. He scored 13 goals in 34 league games last season.
Although Wenger is well aware of him and a fan, Sunderland are in pole position at the moment.

Newcastle would no doubt be delighted to see the back of Martins (right).
Despite his obvious ability, he has often courted controversy with either injury, family problems or tales of being shot at clouding his time on Tyneside.
Quick, explosive and sometimes unpredictable he seems to fit Arsenal's prototype for a striker but his lack of height would be an issue.
Could be left on the shelf by Wenger at this stage but could be relatively cheap at around £10million.

The Bosnia striker is tall, powerful and was voted Germany's footballer of the year.
Manchester City tabled a £25m bid and AC Milan made him their top target but Wolfsburg refused to sell and trebled the 23-year-old's wages.
Arsenal though were very keen and while they couldn't match the money being touted a month ago now they can.
Dzeko would certainly be attracted to Arsenal, even though Milan was his preference, but the problem is Wolfsburg don't need the money.

Huntelaar has decided to stay behind in Spain rather than travel to Ireland for Real Madrid's training camp as he wants to sort out his future.
Arsenal have watched Huntelaar over the past two years but his performances in Spain have failed to dazzle.
Yet the idea of linking him with international team-mate Robin van Persie is appealing and reports in Spain and Holland are making Arsenal the new favourites.
